ARTUR MIHHAILOV

Electrical Engineer/Founder

Once I realized that everything in the world is energy. Its natural manifestations such as electricity, heat, magnetism should be used for the good and usefully.

Having discovered the ability to invent, as well as technical expertise, I decided to channel this energy into useful channels and created a company that will create useful products that benefit society. Let’s start small, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Once you realise that changes do not happen on their own you start doing something about it.

I am currently completing MSc in Mechatronics degree in TalTech. My experience includes of mechanical design engineering in the railway transport company, as well as various projects both in and outside university. During the projects I’ve also tried on the shoes of project and team manager. I am passionate about sustainable future, efficient resources utilization, circular economy and alternative to fossil fuels energy sources.

DESIGNER

Arthur once gave me a try on a prototype electric scooter. And the first feeling was «Wow, how fast and easy!». And after that I wanted myself an «electric horse».

After a test drive, I started developing my dream design and got an electric chopper. I am a professional concept artist. I do 2D art and 3D modeling. my main task as part of the ÖkoMotion team is to make mechanisms and transport as aesthetic and comfortable as possible for end user.

START UP ACTIVITY

How it all begun...

In June 2017 Arthur, our founder and visionary discovered for himself an electric bicycle. E-bike really got his attention and he instantly got a desire to get one for himself. As a professional electrician and enthusiast of his field, he decided that he will build one himself, as electric bicycles are not cheap toys that you can buy any day of the week. Arthur started digging deeper and doing research about all the necessary components and how to get them.

The next important milestone is April 2018. By this time all components were collected, the battery was built from scratch and the motor is ready to start rolling. And thus assembling the prototype has begun and soon, followed the long-awaited testing. During the learning and building process, it became clear that in order to be able to build electric vehicles a strong theoretical and practical background in electronics is necessary. Electricity is a dangerous matter, and it doesn’t forgive mistakes.

The process of building the model manually helped gained a significant amount of experience, as mistakes were made and corrected.

After the prototype was achieved endless testing has begun. Arthur was driving his new e-bike on daily basis, gaining experience of the end-user by himself and making adjustments to improve the model.

In September of 2019, Arthur and his e-bike went through a car crash. Without switching the turning light a car entered a pedestrian zone in seek of the parking lot. Moving at the speed of 25-30 km/h Arthur didn’t have time to react as the car appeared suddenly. Thankfully, well-chosen safety equipment helped to avoid any critical damage. Arthur got a few scratches and a lifelong memorable experience and so did his equipment. The only thing that didn’t go through this accident was a bike’s mainframe. There was no chance to restore the bicycle with it. Luckily, very soon there was an occasion to put all the electric equipment into use once again.

October 2019

In October 2019 arose an opportunity to build something completely new and in a way unique. Arthur has received the vintage red frame from our partners and friends in Nuthill.

Originally the scooter was designed for a very unusual purpose – to set a Guinness World Record. In the June of 2019, a brave and determined man from Russia went on a long and uneasy journey on the scooter from Yekaterinburg to Dubai (link). After the record has been successfully set, the frame still looked like new and it was ready to serve for new accomplishments. Having already experience with electric light vehicle, Arthur decided to transform this scooter into an E-Scooter.

Since then, the long journey involving sleepless nights and countless tests & experiments has begun. The project of E-Scooter has started by adding an electrical kit to the frame (kind of like bike electrification). After that, the tests and try-outs have begun. Through personal experience, other things were also introduced to the scooter.

First came in the back mirror. Normally, after a few days of using the vehicle for more than just one short ride once a week, it turned out that having an ability to control what is happening behind is essential for safety matters.

First came in the back mirror. Normally, after a few days of using the vehicle for more than just one short ride once a week, it turned out that having an ability to control what is happening behind is essential for safety matters.

Next thing that turned out to be missing is the suspension system. The ride was very shaky, there was lack of control and uncomfortableness while riding around the city. Road imperfections, side-walks, off-roads – all these things just make you want a suspension system to make the ride smooth and comfortable, and that’s how suspension system was introduced to the prototype.

After that, it was time for turning and overall lights. It became clear that to make the vehicle safer first of all it has to be more visible. Having that in mind the big front lighter was introduced to the prototype. Apart from being visible, the vehicle and the driver’s behavior should be more predictable for pedestrians and other traffic participants. That’s why the next thing to appear were the turning lights.

Company Establishment

During summer 2020 after nearly a year of testing and improving the E-Scooter, Arthur decides to start a company, to take his achievements and ideas to a new level, and establish a company. However, establishing and running a company isn’t a single man job. There was a need in the team. And luckily, soon an opportunity arose. In September 2020 Mektory hosted a start-up competition StarterIdea Tallinn, where young entrepreneurs with ideas could group up, meet like-minded people, and get needed mentoring and coaching in order to turn their ideas into functioning companies. And that’s how the team and later on company ÖkoMotion was born.

The newly formed team brought new ideas based on the various background of its members. Thus having relevant experience in building the e-bike from scratch the idea of bike electrification arose. We tested different components to make sure we can deliver safe and reliable service to our clients. In the meantime, we were also working on improving the E-Scooter, to take it to a whole new level, and building the company.

We finished the StarterIdea Tallinn event as a runner-up.

Along with the second-place prize, we also scored a lot of side prizes. Passes to Negavatt top 20 and Prototron top 50 were among them.

In the meantime, we also participated in another one-day start-up event Garage48, where we also took second place and got to present our ideas on the stage in front of the juries.

Presently, we reached the point where we can offer bike electrification in the various options, and in the meantime, we continue developing the E-Scooter and working on the side custom projects such as instance Electric Chopper. We believe that in the nearest future light electric vehicle will be more and more popular for in-city commuting and therefore we are working hard to create nicely designed, affordable, and safe products. A lot has been done and even more, is yet to come. Stay tuned!
